File Income Tax Returns by 31st July 2017: Income Tax Department

Income Tax Department has been informing all people about last date to file Income Tax Returns for a long time now. IT department also said that every tax payer must file IT Return by July 31 of this year. Moreover there is option of filing Income Tax Returns using efile returns website of Income Tax Department.

Extension of filing income tax returns last date

In addition Income Tax Department clearly stated that there will not be any extension of last date to file income tax returns. And Monday that is 31 July 2017 is last date for filing of ITRs or Income Tax Returns. On other hand IT Department already received more than two crore returns as most of them were from efiling income tax site.

As a result there is no need to extend last date to file income tax returns. However there is another notification from IT Department. And this was about cash deposits.

Declare cash deposits: Income Tax Department

I-T department also asked all tax payers to declare cash deposits in ITR. But it is only when total cash deposit is either Rs. 2 lakhs or more than that. This is also from the time demonetisation started on 8 November until 30 December 2016.

Even Central Board of Direct Taxes or CBDT said that there is no proposal to extend last date for filing income tax returns. CBDT also clarified that last date of filing returns will be July 31 only. It also said that all tax payers must follow income tax filing rules so that there is no confusion.

Link Aadhaar and PAN card

Income Tax Department also made it compulsory for every individual to link Aadhaar number with PAN card number. Additionally before you file ITR online you must link Aadhar number with PAN number. It is so because only then you can file your income tax returns other wise it may be difficult to file ITR.

Launch of ‘Aaykar Setu’

Apart from above stated notifications of income tax returns in media Income Tax Dept. and Finance Ministry launched ‘Aaykar Setu’. It was Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who launched ‘Aaykar Setu’ recently. This service is useful for all tax payers. In addition it a mobile service for tax payers which will help them to clarify doubts regarding taxes.

For IT Returns it is best if you can check whether you filed IT Tax or not. As you must file IT Returns for 2016-17 fiscal. You even file ITRs for 2017-18 assessment year. And before filing ITR you link Aadhaar number with PAN card number.
